WBTV Speak Out: Airport Security

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

We're frustrated with being stone-walled by Charlotte-Douglas Airport.

Too many questions aren't being answered.

In the past 6 months, we've asked about an employee who jumped the fence to get to work when he'd forgotten his I-D...

We got no response.

We've asked about a Jet Blue agent being bribed to take luggage...

We got no response.

We've asked lots of questions about Delvonte Tisdale...the Charlotte teenager who fell out of US Airways jet over Boston.

We got no response and in fact, got a door shut in our face.

How did the 16-year old sneak into the wheel well of an airplane?

The Task Force looking into this case says it won't answer that question.

Called it a matter of national security.

Now we think that's an easy excuse to hide behind.

Well, it seems we were right.

City Manager Curt Walton said it was an issue of national security...

ONLY... it's not.

The TSA is now reviewing the report to see if it really is an issue of national security.

The TSA responded by saying it NEVER said NOT to release results of the investigation.

We want answers.

And if you also want them, let us know and we'll pass it on.

Security at our international airport -- now the 7th largest in the nation -- is a big deal.

Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com
