The following is a partial transcript of calls to Catawba County 911 at approx. 4:45 am Monday, Feb. 14, 2011
911 operator: Catawba County 911
Caller: Uh.. um.. I'd like to report something.
911 operator: Ok, what's wrong?
Caller: Um I took some pills and um the pills made me go mad and I murdered my roommate.
911 operator:You murdered your roommate?
911 operator: Where are you at?
911 operator: What is your address?
Caller: 5209 Ruth Drive, Hickory, NC
911 operator: What do you mean you murdered your roommate?
Caller: I shot him 3 times and then I used an axe and mutilated his body.
911 operator: Where is your roommate now? Are you still in the house with him?
Caller: Yes, I am right here beside him
911 operator: What is your name?
Caller: Michael Anderson
911 operator: Ok, what did you take that made you do this?
Caller: I overdosed on Mucinex DM, the Dextromethorphan makes me feel a little weird and I took too many.
911 operator: What is your roommate's name?
Caller: Stephen Starr
911 operator: You said you shot him?
911 operator: Where is the gun now?
Caller: In my hands
911 operator: In your hands?
911 operator: I need you to put the gun somewhere.
Caller: I don't know what to do now.
911 operator: Listen I am going to stay on the phone with you.
911 operator: What part of the house are you in?
Caller: In the master bedroom
911 operator: Where is your roommate at?
Caller: He's in his bed.
911 operator: Can you take the gun and put it on the floor. Where is your front door? What part of the house?
Caller: Right as you walk off the master bedroom you walk left.
911 operator: OK, can you lay the gun down on the floor?
Caller: Um. I don't know what to do now.
911 operator: I'm going to help you. But what I need you to do now is lie that gun down
Caller: Oh….I don't know what to do now
911 operator: But what need you to do is put that gun down.
Caller: Oh, don't know why I did it
911 operator: Well we're going to get you some help now.
Caller: I stopped taking my meds for ADHD when I was 17 but I didn't think it would matter.
911 operator: OK that's ok.. I am going to help you.
Caller: I started getting real bad on drugs.. and then I killed my roommate. I can't believe I killed my roommate. My life is ruined.
911 operator then gives various directions for how to get to front door… and to leave gun on floor. Makes him promise to sit in a chair and leave gun on floor.
Caller: Oh.. and um ma'am… I did some things to his body that you don't want them to see.
911 operator: Ok well. I've got you some help on the way out there, OK?
Caller: They're not going to know who it is.
911 operator: OK I need you to stay on the phone with me until they get there. OK?
Caller: I need to go to a mental hospital, too…
911 operator: We're going to get you some help. Alright? I promise.
Caller: I think I'm having a panic attack.
911 operator: Did you and your roommate get into an argument. Or this just happened?
Caller: We met at an um…. I was straight and I wanted to go bisexual and just to experiment and I went to a gay club and I met him and I went to his house. And he took me in and I turned straight again and he wanted to touch me and stuff and I wouldn't let him and he kept trying and I waited until he went to sleep and then I shot him 3 times and then I mutilated him very badly and I'm sorry….
911 operator: We're going to get you some help.
Caller: Please help me.
911 operator: Do you have anyone else in the house with you?
Caller: No ma'am
911 operator: Stay on the phone with me.
Caller then gives address…. And explains directions to the house. Caller mentions cars in front of the house.
Caller: Out there will be wood I was chopping. And the axe. I'm sorry ma'am but the axe is in his stomach.
911 operator: You don't have any weapons in your hands do you?

Caller: I'm sorry to ruin your night, ma'am.
911 operator: Do what?
Caller: I'm sorry to ruin your night.
911 operator: You're fine. We're going to get you some help. Ok?
Caller: I've got blood all over my hands…
911 operator: I want you to stay where you are. Ok? Just stay sitting in the chair. Take some deep breaths. We've got you some help on the way.
Caller: Here comes the police…
911 operator: Listen to me… listen to me… listen to me. Tell me again, you do not have a gun or anything in your hands?
Caller: No ma'am.
911 operator: I want you to stay on the phone until I tell you what to do.
Caller: Yes ma'am.
911 operator: Do not go outside until I tell you to.
Caller: Yes ma'am.
