CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The buzz on the street is that Petit Philippe offers some of the freshest chocolate and wine in the Queen City.
"This is definitely not your grocery story chocolate, Helen Burns said." She's been visiting for more than a month.
Casey Hickey and her husband Mark Meissner opened Petit Philippe in November, and have already seen a rush of visitors. "It's been phenomenal," Hickey said. "I've actually been a bit blown away."
Hickey and Meissner both quit their office jobs to pursue their dream of opening a wine and chocolate boutique. "We genuinely love what we're doing and we're finally kind of doing what we dreamt about," Hickey said.
She fell in love with chocolate while attending pastry school at Le Cordon Bleu in France. "I was just hooked," she said. "It's just this fascinating medium that you can do so many things with."
She decided to bring her passion and expertise to Charlotte. Each chocolate is hand dipped and decorated before hitting your plate. That's what keeps locals like Helen Burns coming back. "They're very intricate and you think how does that get on there," she said.
"You eat with your eyes before it gets to your mouth," Hickey said. "I really wanted them to be different and beautiful and vibrant."
Equally as impressive, their wine selection with over 300 choices. That's what brings Brian Tompakov here regularly.
"I'm very familiar with Napa valley wine," he said. "So for me to come in here and have somebody that has the knowledge to know not only Napa but some of the great French wines, it's a plus for me."
Tompakov agrees it is certainly a hot date spot, perfect for the upcoming holiday. "You can't go wrong with wine and chocolate, right?"
