Cover Story: County calculating homes value

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Mecklenburg County says many local properties are worth more now than just a few years ago.

In some cases, a whole lot more.  The average home value will rise by about eight-percent.

Meaning, if your home was valued at $150,000 last time, it's now valued at $162,000.  And many neighborhoods have seen double-digit increases in home values.

When home values significantly increase, property taxes are likely to follow.

It's a double-edged sword you want your home to be worth more but not when county assessors are putting a value on your property.

The median increase in home values is 6-to-8 percent, half will be above that half will be lower.

How do you make sense out of the revaluation notice you're getting in the mail this week?  PrimeTime's Jeff Atkinson reports in our Cover Story.
