SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - What do we think we know about Egypt? Bad stereotypes and caricatures, mostly. Pyramids, pharaohs, and the Nile River.
But there's so much more to it than that. As I'm sure you've seen in the videos, there has been protest. The country is at a tipping point.
Sometimes it's violent. Sometimes it's not.
Friday, a rally dubbed "day of departure."
Tens of thousands of Egyptians demonstrated peacefully in the middle of Cairo.
But there were also clashes between regime supporters and those who are against it.
At least eight people are dead. Hundreds more injured. And there's no end in sight.
Protesters say they'll continue to rally until President Mubarak steps down. And a handful of people did rally Friday in Charlotte. Despite the cold and the rain,
That's because the uprising in Egypt matters greatly to a lot of people in this city.
