"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Here are some famous names you probably recognize:
Romare Bearden…
Dizzy Gillespie…
Harvey Gantt.
Some you may not be as familiar with are Larry Doby...
Sarah Mae Flemming Brown...
Or the "Friendship Nine."
Whether you know them or not, they all played important roles in America's history.
The Carolinas are home to many African American pioneers who made our country a better place for ALL people.
That's why WBTV is proud to bring you Black History Month vignettes throughout February.
All the stories you hear on the news will also be available on our website…WBTV dot com.
These history-making figures can be a real inspiration for all of us… especially our young people.
They show how you can overcome great adversity to achieve great things.
How you can change your destiny.
And how…in ways both large and small…you can change the world.
We hope you will join us in honoring the achievements of these outstanding individuals, as WBTV celebrates Black History Month.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
