"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Efforts to recycle in our community are gaining steam.
Each week we see green and red curbside bins being filled.
WBTV is pleased to announce another recycling effort coming up today and tomorrow.
It's called "Do Your Part to Eliminate Electronic Waste."
Now, as the name implies, this is a great chance to turn in your old televisions, computers, laptops, radios or whatever, and have them disposed of safely and properly.
These types of appliances often contain toxic heavy metals – contaminants that we don't need seeping back into our water supply.
Recycle sites include the Park Road Shopping Center in Charlotte…and specific Lowes Foods stores in Gastonia and Hickory.
Hours this weekend are 7:30 to 3pm.
Now, you may be concerned about releasing your computer hard drives and the information they may contain, well, Goodwill Industries will be on hand to scrub these old drives clean.
Best thing about this whole effort is it's absolutely free.
No charge to turn it all in.
Details are available at wbtv.com under Community.
Please, take advantage of this easy, convenient, and free way to recycle, and "Do Your Part to Eliminate Electronic Waste."
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
