Stretching Your Dollar: Affordable Yoga

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -   Another New Year and another attempt at New Year's resolutions.  If you have given up on the gym but you still want to have some sort of physical activity, you might want to try yoga.  More and more yoga centers are opening up in the area and many are gearing their hours and prices to families.

Diane Cevallos started Charlotte Family Yoga at the end of 2010.  As the name implies the center is designed to meet the needs of families as well as all practitioners.  "Yoga is so good for everybody and just because of your financial needs, that shouldn't prevent you from coming in to explore such a wonderful practice," said Cevallos.

When she designed the center she created a playful peaceful place for children as well.  "I found it challenging to get to class by the time you pay for yoga and childcare, so I thought, when I create a center I'm going to have a place where moms and dads bring their kids and they're going to have loads of fun," Cevallos explained.  She built a large brightly colored comfy room just down the hall from the yoga space.

Moms,  like Katie Benton, who has a 10 month old, find it much easier to make their classes.  "I don't have anybody to watch her that much so and babysitting is so expensive, so bringing her here is such a help and so awesome," Benton says.  The center sells packages of childcare passes, giving parents a chance to explore many classes before settling on a schedule that best fits them.

More and more centers in the area are making their monthly prices more affordable.  And many, like Charlotte Family Yoga, offer a trial period where you can go to unlimited classes to see which one best fits your need.
