Teen son of Charlotte radio host Bob Lacey dies

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The teen-aged son of a former WBTV reporter and long-time Charlotte radio host and has died.

Bob Lacey's son, John Evan Lacey, was 19 and attended High Point University, according to his obituary. John Lacey, who died Tuesday, was on winter break from college and was a recent graduate of Charlotte Catholic High School. According to the Charlotte Observer, John Lacey suffered from a history of seizures.

John Lacey played soccer and was active in school band and choral groups, according to his obituary.

"He was a loyal friend to many - those from his soccer teams, choral group, performing band, high school classes and college dormitory. John had the privilege to travel to numerous countries and always embraced new adventures and cultures," his obituary said. "He loved playing soccer, music and video games - but most importantly, he loved people. He was handsome and charming and always made others feel at ease and appreciated."

A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Church at Charlotte, 2500 Carmel Road in Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to SIM's Sports Friends Ministry, P.O. Box 7900, Charlotte, NC 28241.

Bob Lacey is the host of the nationally syndicated, long-running "Bob and Sheri" show on WLNK Radio and co-hosted the popular variety show "PM Magazine" on WBTV in the 1980s.
