Last day to ship packages in time for Christmas delivery

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Wednesday is the last day to ship packages and ensure they will be delivered before or on Christmas Day, U.S. Postal service officials said.

USPS expects locations to be very busy, just two days after the busiest mailing day for letters and cards.

Monday, the USPS counted more than 800 million pieces of mail which was a 40 percent increase in mail traffic, spokesperson Tonya Bennett told WBTV.

Bennett said to make sure your gifts arrive by Christmas Day, use Express Mail packaging. "Express Mail is the only service that we guarantee to get it there by Christmas Day," she said, "We will even deliver Express Mail packages on Christmas day for an additional fee for those of us who like to procrastinate until the last minute," she smiled.

If you want to avoid long lines at the Post Office Wednesday, Bennett offered a couple of tips to keep in mind.
