CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Bright lights, colorful costumes, and magical creatures are bringing the story of The Nutcracker to life this weekend in Charlotte.
"Absolutely fabulous... it blew us away," said Rich Starcher. He brought his kids and wife to the show.
This week I experienced the performance from behind the scenes, and in front of the curtain. This year's version will bring you a few surprises you have never seen before.
"You'll see different choreography, different interpretations of the story, different sets," said dancer, Jamie Dee.
She has been dancing for nineteen years, and says this role has been a lifetime goal. "When I was a little girl, I really fell in love with Clara,so that was sort of my first and favorite."
But she twirled and leaped her way to a much more difficult role, the Sugar Plum Fairy.
"I just try to fall in love with whatever I'm doing and just try to be present and enjoy it, and be joyous and be authentic," Dee said.
That's why Dee loves her job. "You're never bored, you never get stuck doing the same thing, you're always being pushed in different directions and it's fun."
It's sure to leave a smile on your face, and some cheer in your heart.
"If you need joy in your life, if you've ever needed just an ounce of joy in your life, you should come see the Nutcracker because we have it in spades," Dee said.
