"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Okay, I must have missed it.
Can someone tell me when "Christmas" became a bad word?
Evidently, we're not supposed to say "Merry Christmas" anymore because "it might offend someone."
"Season's Greetings" is fine.
Tough to get bummed out by "Happy Holidays."
But "Merry Christmas"?
Yeah, let's stay away from that.
In our ongoing effort to be politically correct, have we lost our minds?
If I hear someone say "Happy Hanukkah," it doesn't bother me at all.
When Muslims, Buddhists, whoever, share greetings in the name of their faiths, I somehow survive.
What makes "Merry Christmas" offensive?
More importantly, what about the 90-percent of the U-S population who IS Christian?
Don't their feelings count?
Without the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, there would be no "Pre-Christmas" or "After-Christmas
Sales."
Most of our labor force wouldn't get a day off.
And sadly, we'd simply wind down one bleak year without much hope for the next.
So, to anyone who might be offended by a sincere, optimistic greeting, I do apologize in advance.
But to MOST of you, on behalf of all of us at WBTV, I wish you a "Joyous and Blessed Merry Christmas."
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
