WBTV Speak Out: Greater Enrichment Program of Charlotte

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

We are blessed to live in a giving community.

There are several very good, caring organizations which go out of their way to make our area a great place to live.

One of those is a real gem, quietly making a positive difference.

It's called the Greater Enrichment Program of Charlotte, which has been around for 35 years..

G-E-P is an after-school educational program.

It helps young at-risk students...Kindergarten through 6th grade.

G-E-P aims to provide a safe and caring environment for children whose families can't afford after-school care.

This is for kids who would otherwise go home to an empty house.

Or, even worse -- end up causing trouble on the streets.

It assists with academic achievement, cultural enrichment, positive self-esteem, and also helps kids learn the value of productive citizenship.

G-E-P has touched over 10-thousand families across Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

It is very true -- our children are our future.

We have a role to play.

If you know a child who would benefit from G-E-P, let his or her parents and teachers know about the program.

At the very least, we ask you to check out the Greater Enrichment Program at gepinc dot org.

Learn a little about it.

Think about getting involved.

Your investment -- in either time or money -- will show a child that you care.
