After Black Friday, shop Small Business Saturday

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Judy Horne has already decked out her beloved Matthews store, Fast Frame, for the holidays. Because while most minds tend to turn this time of year to big shopping malls, the days between Thanksgiving and Christmas mean everything to small business owners.

"They're very important," Horne says. "This will be our biggest, biggest month of the year."

So, Randy Mitchell of the Entrepreneur's Source in Matthews wants you to try something new after the big lure of Black Friday.

"I think a lot of retail business owners have been holding on these past two years and it's been a struggle for them," Mitchell says. "And I think they're looking for this holiday season to turn around."

Keep this in mind he says: "Those people are putting their necks out there, they're creating jobs in our community." And start a new tradition.

Start shopping Small Business Saturday. After all, "they provide a lot of things here that the big box stores don't provide," Mitchell says. "Like attention to detail, attention to service."

Small business owners from all over, like Horne, will be ready and waiting to serve you this weekend.

"I think the awareness will be wonderful," she says, "and when people get tired of the busy malls and all the big stores, you can come get in and out of a small business and get things taken care of."
