GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) - We first told you about the New Hope Road Bridge over I-85 in Gastonia after a viewer wrote See, Click, Fix: "I didn't know it was safe for bridges to have major pot holes. There are pot holes on the bridge itself, in both directions. There are pot holes where the bridge connects with the road. Not only is it wear and tear on the cars that pass by, it also has me worrying about my safety."
The viewer was right. We found plenty of pock marks and craters across the bridge. But that was then, this is now!
Each one of those pock marks and craters, and there were dozens, has been patched...and it's smooth sailing all the way across the bridge now...thanks to work by the NC Department of Transportation.
When we first contacted the DOT about the problem we were told there had been a resurfacing project on New Hope Road but the bridge deck itself was not redone. DOT told us it would be looked into.
And as it turns out, the New Hope Road bridge was on the list of bridges that require pot hole patching and it is now fixed. About a month since See, Click, Fix first reported the problem, the bridge has been repaved.
