"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Today's Speak Out Editorial began as a "Thank you" note to Leon and Sandra Levine for their amazing generosity.
Last month, the Levine Foundation announced a gift of 20-million for a new cancer institute through the Carolinas Healthcare System.
This is only the most recent example of the Levines' love for the Charlotte-area.
And we truly are grateful.
But you know, as we thought about it, we realized the Levines' concern for others is demonstrated day-in and day-out from all kinds of people throughout our viewing area.
Families and individuals continue to support their favorite charities in spite of the poor economy.
From food drives...to walks for cures...to churches and synagogues...to dollar donations at grocery stores and restaurants...you've given what you can.
Even though YOU may be hurting, you're still helping those less fortunate.
We recognize it's not just money.
Many of you also selflessly give of your time and talents by volunteering.
So, whether you're able to donate millions to help others, or can just afford to drop a few bucks in the red kettle...we'd like to say "Thank you for giving."
And on this day before our national holiday, we also want to wish you a very "Happy Thanksgiving."
