SPARTANBURG, SC (WIS) - Deputies in Spartanburg County say the "pantless peeping tom" caught on surveillance cameras at an Upstate apartment complex and charged with incidents at two South Carolina colleges is the son of a state lawmaker.
Kevin Parker, 22, of Boiling Springs, is accused of more than 20 "sexual exposures" at the University of South Carolina in Columbia and USC-Upstate going back to 2009. Parker is the son of Republican Rep. Steve Parker of Boiling Springs.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Kevin Parker was charged Tuesday with assault and battery, four counts of indecent exposure and three counts of burglary in Spartanburg County. Wright said Parker has been exposing himself and sneaking into women's bedrooms for almost two years.
Wright says his department has received more than 20 complaints since 2009. "Well, he's a roaming pervert. He is a traveling peeping tom," said Wright.
A July 2009 surveillance image from Campus Edge Apartments shows the man walking in without any pants on.
"(Parker) was picked out of several lineups," said Wright. "We have some other evidence that [the State Law Enforcement Division] is processing for us. We have not got the results back from those. Those are to come. And we're simply waiting on confirmation on some other things."
Surveillance video from an Upstate apartment complex depicted a July 2009 incident, and victims were able to provide enough information for a police sketch. "He was touching my leg and all of the sudden I screamed and as soon as I screamed, he took off running," said Ashley Petty, 23. "The one night that we left it unlocked, he got in."
Investigators made the connection after Parker was arrested last week for exposing himself to female students outside a dorm on the Columbia campus. Parker also is accused of hitting an officer in the chest before trying to flee during the October 30 incident.
Rep. Parker said his son's indecent exposure and resisting arrest charges were unjust, and that his son was just urinating in the bushes after a game. In response to the new allegations, Parker said Tuesday that the case is a private family matter. Messages left with Parker's attorney were not returned.
Sheriff Wright said other charges against Parker are pending, and Parker has agreed to submit to DNA testing to see if he matches evidence from crime scenes.
In the most recent report, the victim, Ashley Petty, says the intruder touched her while she was sleeping.
"He was touching my leg and all of the sudden I screamed and as soon as I screamed, he took off running," said Petty. "The one night that we left it unlocked, he got in."
