CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Campaign 2010 comes to a close.  For over a century, Democrats have controlled one or both chambers of the North Carolina General Assembly.

But no more.

Unofficial results show the GOP won at least 67 seats in the House and 30 seats in the Senate securing the majority in both houses of the state legislature.

But the Republican sweep means more than control for the next two years.

The GOP can expand its influence for the next decade.

PrimeTime's Jeff Atkinson reports Republicans will hold the pens when district boundaries are redrawn.
