Marine Mom's making stockings for troops

LINCOLNTON, NC (WBTV) - Wanda Patton stands alongside her friend Mimi Rhyne in her kitchen. The two mothers to Marine's are packing as many goodies as they can fit into hand-sewn camouflage stockings bound for Iraq.

The two are part of "Operation Santa" which is a national organization aimed at sending Christmas overseas to men and women who won't be able to make it home for the Holidays.

Mimi's son has been deployed since June and the tears well up when she talks about this coming Christmas, the first one spent without her son.

Loading the bags with toiletries, candy, eye wash, and other goodies that make desert-life a little more bearable, makes these women proud. Just as proud of their efforts as they are of the men and women they're sending the bags to.

If you'd like to help in Operation Santa, you can call Wanda Patton at 704-735-6324.
