COPY-Tony Stewart snags big sponsor for race team

KANNAPOLIS - Even during a tough economy it seems nothing drives success like success.

That's certainly the case for Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart.

On Tuesday Stewart announced that his team has signed Mobil 1 as a major sponsor to replace the departing Old Spice brand for the 2011 Sprint Cup season.

"I think I could sell a rock in a shoe box right now, I think I could do it," Stewart told WBTV.

Stewart won Sunday's race in California, and has to be considered a favorite for this week's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

"NASCAR fans are more interested in automotive maintenance, oil, things like that," said Mobil 1 Brand manager Rebecca Rahaim.  "To support the sport they love is a key part of what the Mobil 1 brand is all about."

Stewart also said the #39 team for driver Ryan Newman is secure with sponsorship next year with the return of the US Army and Tornados.
