"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
51-year old Lea Hogan from Concord has reason to smile big.
She's a 15-year breast cancer survivor.
29-year old Mary Geneva Brackett is also excited to tell you --
She beat breast cancer one year ago.
Tia Bullett?
43 years old. From Charlotte.
A proud 4 year survivor.
55-year old Jane Jacobs, from Kannapolis, is just as proud of her 4 years.
These are four faces of thousands in our community who can stand straight and say -- I am a survivor.
These four are also able to say -- "I make an impact".
All these women will be taking part in this year's Susan G. Komen Charlotte's Race for the Cure.
WBTV is a sponsor of the event.
We have been for years.
Why?
Because we care.
The numbers are too big not to.
One in 8 women get breast cancer.
It could be your mother, your sister, your daughter, your aunt.
It could be you.
And it's not just women.
American Cancer Society says breast cancer kills 300 men a year.
So, make an impact.
Whether you participate in Race for the Cure, or volunteer with another breast cancer organization...
Do something to promote the power of early detection.
Know the importance of continued support.
Lea… Mary Geneva… Tia… and Jane… along with the thousands of survivors watching right now… they all say thank you.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
