Parents want their basketball coach back

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -- Mallard Park high school parents took to the streets today, protesting because they want their basketball coach back.

The Principal says Ben Laster left the position to focus on the school's newly accredited JROTC program.

Parents say military training is an elective. They point out that some core teachers also coach teams, and Laster should be allowed to do both.

Mallard Creek parent Kay Morrison says, "he was one of those coaches that worked with parents, worked with the kids, that stayed on top of the kids."

CMS says its a personnel decision.

There's no word yet on if they'll return the coach to the basketball program.
