CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) –If your kids are going stir crazy mid way through summer vacation, you are not alone.
"We're just trying to escape the heat," said Tonia Schillinger of Charlotte. Tonia and her friend brought seven kids to see the Universal release, "Despicable Me." With that many kids in tow, a trip to the movies means big bucks, "It wasn't cheap," Tonia says.
But more and more movie theater companies are offering ways to save. New customer loyalty cards are popular among cinemas. Much like the frequent flyer cards from airlines, the more movies you see, the more points you get, and the sooner you get free stuff.
Regal Cinemas have the Regal Crown Club card. Every time customers spend money, whether on tickets of concessions, they rack up the points towards free tickets.
AMC Theaters also offer their Movie Watcher program that is similar to the Regal Crown Club. But they are helping you save at the box office. At AMC theaters all movies are five dollars for everyone Monday through Thursday all day and showings before 11:55 a.m. the rest of the week.
If you don't mind watching movies that have been released for some time, you can try Movies 10 in Matthews. They offer deals as low as seventy five cents a movie.
