CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police have arrested and charged three men for robbing and shooting a cab driver in west Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 12:10 p.m. along the 4500 block of Rose Ridge Place at Pressley Ridge Apartments.

Late Wednesday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers charged Josiah Knox, 17; Romain Davis, 18; and Sammie Davis, 21.

Each of the men are charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit an armed robbery.  They are being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

When CMPD officers arrived at the scene Wednesday afternoon, they found the cab driver, William Elder Strickland, lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Strickland suffered serious injuries and was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Police said Strickland was dropping off a passenger when he was shot in the head.  Since Strickland didn't have the cab in "park", the vehicle continued moving towards one of the apartment buildings.  According to the CMPD, the cab made contact with the building at a low rate of speed.  The building did not sustain any major damage.

After Strickland was shot, he managed to get out of the vehicle by himself and collapsed on the walkway.

Police said Knox, Sammie Davis and Romain Davis, ran away from the cab right after the shooting.
