Monday marks the two-year anniversary of our SpeakOut Editorials here on WBTV. This continues a long-standing commitment to social commentary which began on our station back in the 1950s.
Over the course of these two years, we've written some 165 editorials, covering a wide range of topics. Chief among these, as you might expect, has been the school system – its leaders, teachers, students, and parents.
We've addressed the United Way, gangs on our streets, the completion of I-485, taxes, healthcare, politics, and government spending. But we've also pointed out the many great things about living in our area.
We've asked you to consider supporting local charities and encouraged you to "keep the faith" during our rough economic times.
And, we've reflected on various holidays and what they mean to our nation.
But some of our favorite SpeakOuts are those where you've responded with YOUR opinions to OUR opinions. You have a passion and intelligence which serves our community well.
This is just a small listing of the various topics we've covered. What do they have in common? Well, if anything, we think it's that our city, our state, our nation would be a lot better served if we all just used a little common sense.
