Skateboarding across NC to raise money

By Kristen Hampton - bio l email

TROUTMAN, NC (WBTV) - With wind on his bad head, Marion Karr swiftly pumps one foot five times, then the other. It took him a while to get used to skateboarding with two legs, but a cross-state trip has surely given him lots of practice.

Marion started his journey in Asheville and plans on ending it in Carolina Beach. He's skating to raise awareness and money for brain injury victims.

Marion was an avid cyclist when he was younger. At 18 years old he was hit by a car and suffered his own traumatic brain injury. The effects still linger although you can't tell just by looking at him.

The money raised goes to a place called Hind's Feet Farm in Huntersville. Marion is hoping to raise at least $10,000 so other victims can benefit from the rehab services on the farm.

$6,000 is already in the bank and the trip isn't even half through. Marion says it's tough sometimes getting up hills, but it's all worth it because of the cause.
