Happy homecoming for Army unit

By Kristen Hampton - bio l email

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - The horns on the bus carrying 40 National Guard soldiers were honking as it drove down National Guard Road in Salisbury.

On board, the men and women who've spent the last 9 months overseas in Iraq.

Dozens of smiling and crying family and friends waited anxiously to get their arms around the necks of the soldiers they've missed so much.

When the unit stepped off the bus, screams of "Daddy!" could be heard for miles around.

These are the stories you never get tired of covering. Each one always makes me cry. Happy tears though, just like the ones everybody else cries before they unload their bags and head home, for good.
