ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - The parking lot at Winthrop University was packed with thousands upon thousands of ugly potatoes.
The tubers bore markings of better days. Bumps, bruises, gashes and misshapen knots do not however, make a potato unfit for eating.
The crop was donated and dumped out for dozens of students to put in mesh bags. The goods weren't fit for selling in grocery stores but only because of cosmetic defects.
Trucks, buses and vans pulled through the parking lot one by one to pack the goods into their vehicles. The potatoes were distributed throughout different soup kitchens and homeless shelters in York County.
The food will go a long way in feeding the needy. A concept that makes for a great Good News story!
