Rosa Parks"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
What do Martin Luther King, Jr., the Greensboro Four, the Rock Hill Nine, and Rosa Parks all have in common?
Every last one of them said enough was enough. They all said we will no longer be afraid to speak out and stand out.
And just like that, they went from ordinary people to people who accomplished extraordinary tasks - making life a little better for you and me.
Now in 20-10, we believe there are more injustices out there.
We believe more people need someone to fight for them. Will it be YOU?
History shows us time and time again that to change the world, all it takes is an average person with an above-average sense of passion and commitment.
Can that person be you? Why not?
As our country pauses this month to remember those who made a difference, we need to keep making history.
We encourage you to decide today what wrong can you help make right...what issue you can help get resolved.
As a nation, we have come a long way, but there are still more battles out there to confront and win.
Keep in mind, you don't need to be brilliant or rich to enrich the lives of others.
All it takes is guts, a plan, and determination.
You can make a major difference in this world, but only if you tackle what you think needs fixing.
So again I ask - during this Black History Month - "Will that person be you?"
And again I say, "Why not?"
Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" – tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
