YORK, SC (WBTV) - Scraps and strings spill over the basket on Flossie Matthew's walker. Plastic bags is her medium, her art comes in the form of rugs and hats.
For 25 years, "The Bag Lady" has been crocheting various items from plastic grocery bags. She uses the tied-together strips to wrap and hook around a crochet needle.
Hats, rugs, table mats and sometimes belts spring to life from hours of crocheting. The 98-year-old woman usually gives the pieces away. Sometimes she sells them for nominal fees.
"It keeps me young," Flossie says.
