The Charlotte Checkers mum on reports that they may be the farm team for the Carolina Hurricanes next year.

The Albany Times Union and the Raleigh News and Observer both reporting the Albany River Rats have been sold and are bound for Charlotte.

The River Rats are currently the Hurricanes farm team.

The owner of the Checkers, Michael Kahn issued a statement today saying-- quote-- the team is neither confirming nor denying that story. It is speculation at the best. There will not be two minor league hockey teams playing in Charlotte

The Charlotte Checkers have loose ties to the New York Rangers...and the team's lease with Time Warner Cable Arena runs out at the end of this year.
