ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - Ebinport Elementary kids didn't take long to decide they needed to help. Their custodian, Gene Gillette is Hatian-American and lost several family members in last week's earthquake.
Two kids took it on themselves to open a lemonade stand. They raised more than $1,100 in 3 days.
Other kids at Ebinport are doing the same. Their bringing in spare change, dollar bills and checks from their parents, all of it goes to the relief efforts in Haiti.
"Mr. Gene" they call him, is touched by the show of support. He says it's helping him get through the terrible news that seems to come with each phone call from home.
Mr. Gene calls the kids, his angels.
