INDIAN TRAIL, NC (WBTV) - Dozens of chickens, ducks and turkeys now have a new home that far beats the one they were living in.
A rescuer with the Humane Society of The United States says many different breeds were confiscated from a home in Greene County, NC. The owners are facing criminal charges for keeping the animals in squalor and failing to provide adequate care.
The birds are now all living at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue in Indian Trail. The non-profit group operates off volunteers and donations. The birds have all been given a check-up and treatment for conditions that come from living in filth.
CWR director Jennifer Gordon says their in a much better place now where they'll be cared for and loved.
