CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - People hoping for a 2009 tax write-off have just days left to donate to area thrift stores and donation centers.

Goodwill stores are taking in thousands of extra items this week because of post-holiday contributions.

Donators flooded the Mount Holly Goodwill store with thousands of books, clothes, pieces of furniture and toys. The items are sorted and put on the sales floor.

Goodwill officials say 2009 donations are down, but hope the last minute rush to give will help boost intake.

The items sold at Goodwill stores fund a job training program that is much in need of extra money. Officials say the demand for their programs has increased by 10,000 people since 2007.
