Good News: Gourd Lady

By Kristen Hampton - bio l email

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Margaret Sparkman is the kind of woman you want to shrink down and carry in your pocket.

She already has a tiny caricature of her made from a dried gourd.

93 year-old "Sparky" as she's called, has been making thousands of gourd creatures for 50 years. She's been displaying and selling her wares at the Southern Christmas Show, for 46 years.

Decked out in a gourd hat, gourd earrings, gourd shoes and a gourd dress, Sparky definitely draws lots of stares from patrons. But then they stop, and she steals their hearts.
