CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - When Selena Johnson began her career, Eisenhower was president and schools were still segregated. A lot has changed in her 55 year career, a lot, except for the kids.
"I really enjoy working with them. They make you feel so good", Johnson says.
The 75 year-old has made a career out of being a librarian, but her work is more about teaching the kids.
The Villa Heights Elementary teacher comes to school every morning at 6:30 to be certain her lessons are in order. Some of the younger classes listen intently as Ms. Johnson reads books aloud. The older kids listen intently as she explains the history of Veterans Day.
Ms. Johnson says she's not even considering retirement. She could never leave the smiles and hugs of the little futures she helps shape.
