Speak Out: Let Your Voice Be Heard

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

Tuesday is Election Day.

It's a day many of our forefathers fought for and sacrificed everything to achieve.

All elections are important...but this one especially so.

It's not Presidential, so we understand it's not getting as much play.

But this election impacts your daily life and family more than most.

It's very local.

There are candidates running for Mayor and City Council in Charlotte, Mayor and Board of Commissioner seats in surrounding towns and counties, as well as positions on the Mecklenburg County School Board.

We hope you've been educating yourself on the candidates.

We hope you'll vote for a person, and not just vote a party.

We will not endorse a candidate in these editorial SpeakOuts -- ever -- but we will encourage you to look at each individual.

Take into account past accomplishments.

Know what they stand for.

And remember... we are not here to serve our government... our government is here to serve us.

Voting is your chance to stand up for what you believe.

By not voting you are giving a stronger voice to those of us who do.

Bottom line: Exercise your right.

Let your voice be heard.

Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" - tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com
