"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
NICK SIMONETTE: At the end of our SpeakOut editorials, we invite you to respond...whether you agree or disagree. Here's
a sampling of e-mails we've received on a variety of issues:
NICK: Brian Howard took us to task for calling on South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford to resign:
BRIAN HOWARD: "It's not surprising that such a liberally biased organization as yours would try and revive an issue that most reasonable people in the area feel is long over."
NICK: Joe Ford also supported the Governor:
JOE FORD: "Governor Sanford is doing a much better job than the governor of North Carolina. Perdue is an insult to the citizens of North Carolina and now she is raising our taxes."
NICK: Well Joe, we do agree that Governor Perdue and North Carolina's legislature were wrong to raise taxes during a recession with record unemployment.
On our editorial calling for the Governor and officials in Raleigh to finish I-485, Miriam Smith writes:
MIRIAM SMITH: "When you talk about the ‘good old boys' in Raleigh, I get so angry....I am completely serious about Mecklenburg County and any other western county seceding from NC."
NICK: We doubt seceding will work. But casting your vote on Election Day in 2010 CAN make a difference. That's why we said if you've "had enough," educate yourself NOW on where the candidates stand. Al Smith agrees:
AL SMITH: "I am glad someone has seen the light. Please...remind everyone of this come election time. And don't do it late night with a whisper! Sound off, make it count!!!"
NICK: We will Al. And we invite everyone to keep your opinions coming. We'll keep ours coming as well.
Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
