HICKORY, NC (WBTV) - James Tillman never imagined 3 little pumpkin seeds would turn into a giant maze of vines and produce what could be considered, "The Great Pumpkin".
The 91 year old Hickory man spends many hours a day in the garden. Last spring he decided to try his thumb with pumpkins.
Recently, James harvested quite the whopper weighing in at well over 100 pounds. He had a neighbor help pry the huge fruit up with a crow-bar and load it into a wheelbarrow.
James is proud of his giant pumpkin, although he realizes its not likely to shatter any records. "I think the people in the Midwest might laugh at it," he says with a chuckle.
The proud pumpkin has been sitting in the backyard until today, when we helped tote it to a better location where more people can see James' labor of love.
