KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) - A man wearing a NASCAR cap attempted to rob a bank in Kannapolis on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at the Wachovia bank located at 1501 S. Cannon Boulevard.

Kannapolis Police say the man approached the counter and handed the teller a note demanding money.

The man placed his hand in his pants pocket as if he was armed but no weapon was displayed.  The man became startled and left the bank without getting any money.

Police said the suspect is a white male, approximately 50 years of old and has a light-colored beard.  He was wearing a white-buttoned, long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, black NASCAR ball cap, and glasses.

Authorities think he left the area in a late model white Ford F-150 pickup truck.  Moments after the attempted robbery, a vehicle fitting this description was seen leaving the area.

If you know who this man is, call 704-920-4000 or 704-93-CRIME.  Information leading to the identification and capture of the suspect may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
