The Good News Is... Banjo champ is a humble guy

SHERRILL'S FORD, NC (WBTV) - Billy Cockman has been playing the banjo since he was 11.

He usually plays in his family band, "The Cockman Family", but a week ago, he was playing in front of a crowd that would decide his fate.

Cockman was performing for a shot at North Carolina's Banjo Champion of 2009. Would you believe with his quick style of finger picking, he did win.

Grand prize was a new banjo and a lot of recognition in the bluegrass community. Cockman will keep with the family band though. They're the ones who brought him this far.

Cockman gives banjo lessons when he's not playing with his family or working his job as a designer at Lexington Home Brands Furniture in Hildebran.
