Speak Out: Race For The Cure

Posted: Updated:

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.

"It will happen.  How quickly is up to you."

That's the slogan for this year's Susan G. Komen *Charlotte's* Race for the Cure.

We like the cause... but we've got to say... we also like this slogan.

It's a confident way to talk about finding a cure.

Listen again.

"It will happen.  How quickly is up to you."

WBTV is a sponsor for today's Charlotte Race for the Cure.

Last year over 14-thousand people came out to walk, run or simply support mothers, sisters, daughters and friends hanging in the balance.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers out there... one in eight women affected.

In 2009, Komen Charlotte contributed one-point-two million to 24 non-profit programs in our local area.

It helps offer free mammograms and medical treatments for those who can't afford it.

There are lots of facts we could tell you about this organization and cause...

but sometimes a picture can tell a thousand words.

So just look at these faces.

Look at the pride...

...The strength...

...The belief...

"Imagine a life without breast cancer," is written across their smiles.

We will try.

We will try to imagine a life without breast cancer.

We ask you try to try it as well.

You can start by repeating the following slogan:

"It will happen.  How quickly is up to you."

Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" - tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com
