CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte woman who was driving the wrong way caused a fatal head-on accident in east Charlotte early Wednesday morning.

The accident happened along the 6900 block of East W.T. Harris Boulevard near Kimmerly Glen Lane.  The crash occurred just after 5 a.m.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, 30-year-old Tricia Sharon Rawana was driving her Toyota Corolla 4S in the wrong direction when she struck a car driven by 42-year-old Kim Mobley of Charlotte.

Police said neither driver appeared to be traveling above the posted speed limit.

Mobley died at the scene and Rawana was critically injured.  She was transported to Carolinas Medical Center.

The CMPD HITS Unit is trying to determine why Rawana was traveling in the wrong direction and whether alcohol use may have contributed to the fatal crash.
