CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police are looking for a man who they say stabbed his girlfriend inside her apartment in southwest Charlotte Tuesday afternoon and then took her two daughters with him.

The assault happened at an apartment located at 313 Benjamin Street around 1:21 p.m.  Initial reports indicate the mother was stabbed 25 times, but police have not confirmed this yet.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the suspect is Maurice Jermaine Harris.

Police say Harris took 3-year-old Markayla Harris and 1-year-old Malaya Harris with him as he fled the apartment.  Both of the girls are black females, police said.  An AMBER alert has been issued for the two missing girls.
