2 Charlotte area men share $500,000 lottery prize

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two men from the Charlotte area share a winning ticket worth a half a million dollars.

The winning $500,000 Jackpot instant scratch-off game was sold to Steven Smith of Indian Trail and Wael Salem of Charlotte.

Smith was surprised and could not believe he won the top prize.  After taxes, the two men will share $340,003.20.

They purchased the winning ticket at the Xpress Mart #4 on Wilgrove-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill.

The winning "Carolina Cash 5" in the Sept. 12 drawing worth $178,887 was sold at the Cubbard Express on Northeast 16th Street in Hickory.  Lottery officials say the winner has not yet stepped up.
