CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Fire officials are still collecting evidence and trying to determine if two businesses which caught fire early Wednesday morning are connected.

The calls were reported within 10 minutes of each other and the businesses are located just two miles apart.

Around midnight, firefighters were called to the Fuddruckers at 16625 Statesville Road.  The restaurant has been vacant for the last few years.

The fire appeared to have originated in the center of the building and firefighters were able to extinguish it within a few minutes.

Officials haven't said how much damage the fire caused.

Around 12:10 a.m., Huntersville police were called to another fire at the Dollar Deal store located near the intersection of Statesville Road and Gilead Road.

A passerby reported this fire after seeing smoke coming from the roof.  Firefighters forced their way into the back of the store where the fire was located.

The Hancock Fabrics and Sprint stores which are located adjacent to Dollar Deal had minor smoke damage.

The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal's office is assisting Huntersville Police with the investigation.  If you know anything about these fires, call Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers at 704-896-7867. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for tips leading to an arrest.
