Salvage yard owner fires supervisor and pays workers

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Dozens of workers protested outside Stallings Salvage on Tuesday claiming they haven't been paid.

The workers told WBTV this isn't the first time they have been treated poorly.

Many of the workers told us a woman named "Miss Lynn" hired them.

They said she was a boss who became their mentor and friend, but that the owners of the company wanted to get rid of them.

Many of the workers said they hadn't complained prior to Tuesday because they were afraid of losing their job with the economy as bad as it is now.

Some of the workers claim the company owes them pay for the last two weeks.

"My little boy has to have surgery Thursday and I need my money," said Ebony Chambers.

We spoke with the owner of the salvage yard on Wednesday.  He told us he hired a supervisor to run the salvage yard and she wanted to hire some temporary workers.

He claims he told her he couldn't afford it.  Without his consent, she went ahead and hired several temporary workers.

The owner told us he paid $40,000 in out-of-pocket expenses to pay all of the temporary workers and has since fired the supervisor.
