CAMPOBELLO, SC (WBTV) - Matt Harris is one half of the popular radio show, "Matt and Ramona" on 107.9 The Link.
Matt's antics generally leave listeners laughing, but last October a tragedy turned the tables.
Matt and his wife Amy gave birth to a still-born baby girl. Grayson's death threw the couple into darkness. Radio listeners sent hundreds of letters and e-mails showing condolences and support.
Paul Zimmerman of Campabello, SC found a way to remember the baby girl forever.
Zimmerman owns Ashdown Roses. He imported an cultivated a rose from France that had never before been available in the U.S. He named the flower, "The Grayson Rose".
Zimmerman teamed up with "Matt and Ramona" and offered the rose for sale. Matt says he never imaged they'd sell more than 50. Six months into the process, more than 1,100 Grayson Rose bushes have been sold. 40 percent of the proceeds from the $19 rose bush go to The March of Dimes.
Matt says it's comforting to know so many people cared enough to purchase a rose in honor of his daughter. So far, the Grayson Rose has raised more than $8,700 for the March of Dimes.
