Robbery suspects end night with wild ride, crash

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two men had quite a wild ride in their attempt to escape capture from police in east Charlotte early Wednesday morning.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the men robbed at least two victims and attempted to rob a third person.

The first incident was reported late Tuesday night along the 1500 block of Central Avenue.  Police said the suspects pointed a black revolver at a woman and stole some cash and personal items.  The suspects left the scene in a white Toyota with a tag which read "BETSY."  The woman was not injured.

A few minutes after midnight, police received a second call along the 1600 block of Eastcrest Drive.  The victim told police two men walked toward him and the victim soon heard multiple gunshots.  The victim was struck once in the arm and taken to Carolinas Medical Center.  He is expected to be ok.

At 12:24 a.m., police were called to the 2100 block of Central Avenue.  Police said the victim was robbed by two black male suspects who were armed with a black revolver.

The victim told police the suspects were in a white vehicle with "BETSY" on the tag just like the first victim reported.

A short time later, police spotted the suspects' car and attempted to pull the men over.

The driver turned off the vehicle's lights, drove down a hill in a neighborhood park and eventually crashed into a fence by the pool.

Both men ran from the car and police were unable to find them.
