"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Nick Simonette.
Question --
Who do you think said this?
"I think it would be much better for the country and for him personally (to resign). I come from the business side. If you had a chairman or president in the business world facing these allegations, he'd be gone."
That, folks, would be a quote from Mark Sanford.
Sanford said that about Bill Clinton, when Clinton lied about his affair.
Here's another one -- who do you think said THIS?
"The issue of lying is probably the biggest harm, if you will, to the system of Democratic government, representative government because it undermines trust. And if you undermine trust in our system, you undermine everything."
That's also Sanford, talking years ago about Clinton.
Governor Sanford -- you should resign.
We don't support your affair, but that's not the reason we're saying this.
In fact, if it was just the affair, our editorial board wouldn't have this stance.
You should resign because -- as those quotes prove -- you are not living up to your own word.
Even more importantly, you ignored your duty.
You left taxpayers with no warning.
You wouldn't answer 15 calls from your Chief of Staff.
You met your "soul mate" on previous taxpayer-funded trips.
You intentionally let the people you serve think you were somewhere you weren't.
Even more importantly-- as those previous quotes prove -- you are not living up to your own word.
We understand you're opting to stay in office. But if any of us had such dereliction of duty, we wouldn't have an option. We would have already been fired.
Because WBTV is "On Your Side," we encourage everyone to "Speak Out" - tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com.
